If some of you don't know what I am talking about, well, it's about the September number of Vogue magazine. It is the most important number in the year because it sets the trends for all the rest of the season.
I think you've heard about Anna Wintour, who is the editor in chief for the American Vogue magazine. If you haven't, don't worry, this means you are yet as superficial as I am, and that's a good sign
. She inspired the "The Devil Wears Prada" film (actually, she inspired the book, who was written by one of her assistants).
A new film was highly promoted these days. Actually, it's a documentary, called "September Issue". It depicts the way the Vogue September Issue 2007 was made and of course, it has Anna in the center of it.
So this weekend, I've decided to buy the French Vogues September Issue in order to see what's all that buzz around it. I payed almost 5 euros (which is a lot for a magazine), but this magazine weighs 2 kilos at least, so I said to myself that at least the amount of paper should justify that price. Once at home, after lunch, I made myself a capuccino and opened that damned magazine. I turned the first page - an advert. The second, an advert, the third - an advert, the 5th, 6th, 7th... adverts. I opened the magazine after 100 pages - adverts. So the whole magazine is stuffed with advertisements. Ah, sorry, there are a few tiny tiny columns (but written in such a flamboyant style that it makes me stop in the middle of the phrase and never finish it).
Yeah, it's true, the adverts are beautiful, the photos are amazing, almost as an work of art. But that's it. None of them made my wow. None of them inspired my with the genie of fashion. Well, maybe it's me, maybe it's my fault, but I expected something else. I expected articles, I expected fashion tips, I expected an editorial written by Wintour herself, or something like that (though it was the French Vogue). But unfortunately, none of these happened to be in the magazine. Instead, highly luxurious garments, not to mention the prices (well, this, I was expecting) but almost non-existing comments, opinions, text. I am disappointed.
Though, I am going to give Vogue another chance and go to this documentary premiere. Who knows, maybe this time, I won't be disappointed.
